Referee Habib 'Mkarafuu' Mohammed who refereed Karim 'Mandonga' Said and Salim Abeid match has been suspended.
Mkarafuu, who is the Chairman of the Association of Paid Boxing Referees in the country, has been removed from the list of referees for a while after admitting that he could not afford to play the fight that took place on Sunday night in Mtwara region.
The result of the fight was annulled by the president of the Tanzania Professional Boxing Commission (TPBRC), Chaurembo Palasa after the referee showed incompetence after Mandonga was hit and fell to the ground but did not count him as required by the rules until he got up.
The Secretary of the Professional Boxing Referees Association, Emmanuel Mlundwa has said that the referee has been asked to return to class before being allowed to continue his duties in the ring.
He said the TPBRC president was not wrong to cancel the results because if they were included in the record, the World Boxing Network (Boxrec) would need his videos first.
"That would bring a negative attitude to our fists, but as a party we have satisfied ourselves that there were many decision-making errors in the fight, which may have been caused by our referees staying for a long time without participating in various courses and that is what happened to Mkarafuu," said Mlundwa.
He has said that due to these errors, the Association has stopped the referee from playing any fight until he returns to the classroom to increase his skills in refereeing courses in the next two months," he said.
The referee agreed to the punishment and admitted that he was unable to handle the fight, which he claimed was due to human error.
