1.       (a) how do you understand by the word internet?

The Internet is a global wide area network that connects computer systems across the world

1.      (b) briefly describe the importance of internet

        i.            Friendship and dating. The internet allows for interaction of many different people so there is greater chance of finding someone more attractive. The Internet "enhances face-to-face and telephone communication as network members become more aware of each other’s' needs and stimulate their relationships through more frequent contact". 

 

      ii.            Education and self-improvement. On-line courses and workshops It can improve the quality of education in many ways. It opens doorways to a wealth of information, knowledge and educational resources, increasing opportunities for learning in and beyond the classroom. Teachers use online materials to prepare lessons, and students to extend their range of learning

 

    iii.            Electronic mail. At least 85% of the people in the world under influence of internet uses e-mail to receive and send informations, messages and media files

 

    iv.            Research. Researcher uses internet to get different informations concerning with their researches

 

      v.            Downloading files. Downloading means your computer is receiving data from the Internet. Examples of downloading include opening a web page, receiving email, purchasing music files and watching online videos.

 

    vi.            Discussion groups. Online discussion groups can be formed in various software platforms the most common being Google, Yahoo! and Facebook. All will have similar functions, such as being able to post topics for discussion, allow participants to post answers and pose new queries, and allow for mass email to be sent to all members

 

  vii.            Interactive games. These are powerful environments for learning. Research consistently finds that players learn new skills, knowledge, insights, attitudes, or even behaviors, in games that challenge them to think, explore, and respond

 

viii.            Electronic newspapers and magazines. This category includes late-breaking news, weather, and sports.

 

    ix.            Job-hunting. Over 80 percent of online job seekers are employed at the time of their job seeking and Internet users, conditional on observables, are more likely to change jobs and are less likely to transition to unemployment. Furthermore, those who use the Internet have greater wage growth when changing jobs.

 

      x.            Shopping.

        i.            URL

URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator. A URL is the address of a given unique resource on the Web. A URL is composed of different parts, some mandatory and others optional such as protocol and domain name

      ii.            Www

World Wide Web

The World Wide Web is a system for displaying text, graphics, and audio retrieved over. A hypertext document with its corresponding text and hyperlinks is written in HyperText Markup Language (HTML) and is assigned an online address called a Uniform Resource Locator (URL).

 

    iii.            Web browser

web browser (commonly referred to as a browser) is a software application for accessing information on the World Wide Web. When a user requests a web page from a particular website, the web browser retrieves the necessary content from a web server and then displays the page on the user's device. Example of web browsers Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, and Opera.

 

    iv.            Search engines

Search engines are programs that make it easy for people to search the internet for a relevant web page. The three main functions of a search engine are collecting information about webpages, categorizing those webpages, and creating an algorithm that makes it easy for people to find relevant web pages

Example of search engines Google, Bing, Yahoo, Baidu, Ask.com, Excite, DuckDuckGo

 

      v.            Web page

web page (or webpage) is a specific collection of information provided by a website and displayed to a user in a web browser. website is a collection of web pages and related content that is identified by a common domain name and published on at least one web server. Example of websites are www.waterinstitute.ac.tz, www.necta.go.tz, www.nacte.go.tz

 

    vi.            Http

Http stands for of Hypertext Transfer Protocol used to exchange information on the World Wide Web

 

  vii.            Hash tag

hashtag is a type of label or metadata tag used on social network and microblogging services which makes it easier for users to find messages with a specific theme or content

4. Explain how to create a blog page or chat forums and subscribe to social network

 

An online social network is a website where groups of Internet users can meet, communicate (typically via chats or online calls), share and create content, react to this content and build own digital network of contacts example are Facebook, WhatsApp, tweeter, Instagram, Skype, and Zoom

For example to create a Facebook Page:

1.      Go to facebook.com/pages/create.

2.      Click to choose a Page type.

3.      Fill out the required information.

4.      Click Create Page.
